Supra spent two years developing the ultimate speaker cable, and the result was Sword Excalibur.

The aim was not to compromise on anything: everything had to be the best while remaining reasonably priced and, of course, manufactured in Sweden. Bifilar-wound Litz conductors, PE insulation, twisted and shielded for minimal interference, a CNC-machined cable splitter with ground connection, XL-Annorum ground conductor, and solid copper contacts with rhodium plating.

The crimp contacts were specially developed for Excalibur. The conductor is screwed into the crimp body, similar to an F-connector, for maximum bending strength. The stripped Litz wires are then machine-crimped for a perfect, airtight cable connection. The contact body is equipped with an M6 connection, enabling connection with either rhodium-plated spades or banana plugs. The ground connection with an XL-Annorum conductor is 30 cm as standard and is also fitted with specially adapted, rhodium-plated Combicon contacts.

Supra has previously stated, without modesty, that the standard Sword is one of the best cables available, regardless of price or manufacturer. Sword Excalibur takes another few steps toward near-total transparency, still the only term that correctly describes this patented “high-end” speaker cable.

The secret lies in the construction with bifilar-wound Litz conductors. The cable consists of 24 separately insulated strands per conductor, with two conductors per cable; 12 are wound clockwise in a spiral and the remaining 12 counterclockwise. Through this ingenious orientation, the two conductor pairs operate in what is known as “magnetic null,” meaning that the oppositely wound strands cancel out each other’s inductance (magnetic effect).

Another advantage is that the skin effect is minimized, meaning the tendency of current (the signal) at high frequencies to move closer to the surface of the strands. Equally important, the separate arrangement of each conductor completely prevents spontaneous current jumps between the strands in the conductors, which cause time-shifting effects. For you as a customer, this means a cable that does not dampen music’s fast transients: a cymbal sounds as a cymbal should, a grand piano’s attack does likewise, and the superior timing contributes to a three-dimensional soundstage that, in a correctly set-up Hi-Fi system, is remarkably true to the original recording being played.

Something normal in high-quality music recordings that are not compressed in the same way as pop/hit music made for radio/streaming is that each instrument and voice phrases (emphasizes) different parts of the music. This is barely audible with basic equipment connected using the supplied, inferior cables. But even with the same equipment, upgrading the cable quality provides an audible step forward in sound. If you have high-end Hi-Fi equipment, we would argue that Sword should be regarded as just as relevant to your system’s performance as any of its other components. Do not replace, for example, your speakers before trying a Supra Sword Excalibur demo unit from your local dealer. Sword is sold only terminated. Why? Because of its special construction, terminating the contacts is critical - in other words, not something to do yourself! The termination is made using heavy-duty crimping, airtight so that the materials fuse together in a way that closely resembles welding. The cable is supplied in a black wooden box. The termination includes both fork and banana Supra rhodium-plated CombiCon contacts. Both banana and fork connectors are included, so you are not limited in future upgrades to your electronics or speakers.
