Product description
The Cinema 40 is a 9.4-channel amplifier and the largest model in the new lineup with nine built-in power stages. It can be upgraded to 11.4 with additional final steps. Marantz states a power of 125 watts per channel (2 channels running, 8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.05%), which is enough for most speakers. You can easily supplement with additional output stages for better control and sound. Audyssey MultEQ XT32 is used for calibration, a simple system that provides good control over the acoustics of the system. For the more advanced user, there is the option to upgrade to Dirac Live, a calibration system developed in Sweden and considered one of the best in the world. The amplifier is prepared but the license is purchased separately from Dirac.

    HEOS, a wireless multi-room platform, is built-in for streaming and multi-room support. You can configure your rooms using the HEOS app and play the same or different music from services such as Spotify Connect, Tidal, Deezer, etc. or play locally stored music from a NAS or USB stick. Bluetooth support is available for streaming music directly to the amplifier or to compatible devices, as well as sending audio to Bluetooth headphones.

    The amplifier has many connections including HDMI, Phono (MM), stereo RCA , subwoofer outputs, 11.4 Pre-Out and 7.1 multi-channel inputs. The HDMI inputs support 4K@120Hz/8K@60Hz, ALLM, VRR, QFT, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling. The amplifier can also internally upscale 2K (1080p) or 4K to 8K.

    2022/2023 Cinema amplifiers have a feature called Pre-Amplifier Mode. In this mode, the amplifier acts as a preamplifier with a cleaner signal path and higher tolerance to clipping in the sound because the built-in power stages are turned off. You can also choose to turn off the output stage for selected channels, for example if you want to drive main speakers with an external amplifier. The amplifier can then better control ambient and Atmos speakers while the signal sent via Pre-Out is cleaner.
