Rega Planar 8 is a high-end turntable that takes Rega's philosophy of lightweight and rigidity to a new extreme. Inspired by the flagship Naiad but at a significantly more accessible price, the Planar 8 uses advanced materials and technologies to extract maximum detail from your vinyl records. With its ultra-light skeleton chassis made of Tancast 8 foam (developed for the aerospace industry) and high-pressure laminate (HPL), it is 30% lighter than its predecessor RP8 – yet significantly stiffer.
What makes the Planar 8 unique?
- Skeleton chassis in Tancast 8 – ultra-light polyurethane foam core between two HPL layers for extreme stiffness and minimal resonance.
- Double brace technology with phenolic resin brace between the tonearm mount and main bearing – creating a "stressed beam" construction that eliminates unwanted vibrations.
- RB880 tonearm with new vertical bearing construction in aluminum and stainless steel, zero tolerance bearings, and thinner counterweight for perfect tracking and compatibility.
- Hand-matched Neo MK2 PSU – advanced power supply with DSP generator, electronic speed switching, fine tuning, and anti-vibration circuits for unbeatable speed stability (less than 0.15% deviation).
- Reference EBLT drive belt – specially developed rubber compound for perfect roundness and speed consistency.
- Triple layer glass platter made of three layers of Pilkington glass with a "super flywheel" effect – mass concentrated on the outer edge for stable rotation while keeping the inner part light.
