With Sonic Design damping feet, a significant reduction in the cabinet's movements is achieved. It is clearly noticeable if you loosely hold a finger against the top front of a speaker cabinet that it vibrates much less when playing.
The result is that the sound frees itself better from the speakers, creating a larger soundstage, and the system gets a cleaner tone with noticeably lower distortion. 
Another effect is that the reduced vibrations in the floor also reduce disturbances to the neighbors in the house.
